Wild Spark

Bethany Karn submitted this week's garden kitty. She writes: "Sparky Spitfire is two years old. She is a former Takoma Tiger: one of the many feral cats that live in the ravine behind the houses of Philadelphia and Grant Avenues in Takoma Park, MD. She was rescued/captured as a kitten by workmen who found her and her litter mates under a shrub. She is still very wild at heart, but has grown to grudgingly put up with us. She is a our Chief Mole Inspector."

Sparky has her own website with all of her "probably true adventures." It is: www.sparkyspitfire.com. This post in particular deals with a garden project Bethany (and Sparky) completed last summer: http://sparkyspitfire.wordpress.com/2013/06/13/garden-tour/.

Not-So-Common Nettle

Holly Budd of Sunderland, MD, sent this ebony beauty in. She says, "This is Nettle in the garden in early March. She was soaking up the rays in a temporary greenhouse, she didn't care about the weeds. I always like the early wee flowers."
