Through the (Looking) Glass

Connie Hilker of Hartwood Roses in Fredericksburg, VA, USA, shared these photos of Alice and Dorothy. She wrote, "They are littermates. Steve and I adopted them from PetsMart in August 2010 when they were approximately 12 weeks old. I liked Alice best, Steve was partial to Dorothy, so we compromised and brought both of them home. Adopting two kittens at once is our best decision ever, and I highly recommend it as a never-ending source of joy and entertainment."

"They are named after Alice in Wonderland and Dorothy of Oz, because both characters are brave girls. Alice and Dorothy are indoor-only cats. Their garden is experienced from a distance while sitting on their windowsills. Cut flowers and plant orders provide an indoor garden for them, but not too often because Alice is fond of snacking on the leaves, especially rose leaves."

Crazy Cat Lady

I am proud to be a crazy cat lady and I also love miniatures. I have a Victorian dollhouse which features a different cat in each room. So I was ecstatic to see my favorite competition at the Philadelphia Flower Show last year, the miniature gardens, featured a crazy cat lady and her wonderful garden cats! I wish I had taken a photo of the exhibit card that went with it so we could know who the clever person was behind this display. I think you'll agree that whomever it was, they sure know how to tell a story and their talent is in the fine details.

Watermelon Cat

A new meme was born when Pearl, a cat in Thailand, was featured on BoredPanda.com as the "angry-looking watermelon cat."

But lest you think Pearl is only about the melons, rest assured that on Pearl's owner's Facebook page, there are plenty of other Pearl photos showing he is a well-rounded garden cat. Here are two of my favorites:

Jackie: Queen of the Compost

Gabrielle Dandy-Horn,  a Certified Fine Gardening Professional, with Gardens Remembered, LLC in Gaithersburg, MD, shared pictures of her cat Sally. This week is Jackie's turn -- Sally's sister.

Gabrielle wrote:
"Jackie is our wonder kitty! She has always been a huntress, bringing us her victims - birds, mice, even a baby possum once! In 2018, she went missing for 5 days. She’d never been out overnight, and we posted signs in our neighborhood with a pic of her and description. She was always tiny, but at 17 years old she was also frail. She came back on her own, thank God, but with a broken back leg that was able to heal on its own, but very deformed. She’s managed quite nicely, and two years later still hops around outside or flops down on a comfy chair outside. Through the years her fur has increasingly changed in the mid-section. Through research and my vet’s knowledge, we found she has quite a bit of Rex in her – extremely soft curly fur."
