Peek-a-Boo

Kathy Stevens of Silver Spring, MD, shared this photo of Spicy P. She writes, "Spicy P joined us in March 2024 after my 15 -year-old tortoise shell cat, Camille, crossed the rainbow bridge. Spicy P is about 3 years old. The folks at the Montgomery County shelter aren’t exactly sure. She was part of a group of 30 cats taken from a hoarding situation. She was very shy at the shelter and took a while to get used to us. It turns out she’s pretty social, probably partly because she is used to being around other cats. And people are just big cats, right?
"She doesn’t go outside very often and only with supervision. She doesn’t go far and isn’t really comfortable being outside. That Japanese Hakone grass (pictured above) is fairly close to the house and she likes eating it and hiding in it. I liked her wary, but excited, look"
Kathy previously shared this picture of a container cat.

Tortitude

I was taking a morning stroll yesterday, when I came across this friendly and striking cat in a neighbor's front garden. She is presumably a female as most Tortoiseshell cats are and was quite pleased to pose for my camera. I love that stripe down her nose.

Beatrix and Batgirl

Jimmy and Andrew shared these photos of his two cats. Jimmy wrote:

"Our two cats love the garden. We live in a Tudor cottage with, of course, a cottage-style English garden. (We took inspiration from the Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral in DC.)

"Our sweet long haired torti (tortoiseshell) is named Bea, but her full name is Beatrix Farrand named after the famed Landscape Architect who designed Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown.

"Our other kitty is a tuxedo (black-and-white) named Batgirl, because when she was a kitten her little head hadn’t grown into her big ears and she looked like Batgirl from the '60s show!

"Both are great company outside whether we are gardening, having morning coffee, or entertaining."

Mother's Daughter

The last two weeks, Nick Adam Lawes shared a collection of garden cat photos with us and we started with Max and then George, Max's brother. After those two handsome boys, I thought it was time to let some girls shine.

Now we have Sofia. Nick wrote, "Sofia is like a ray of sunlight! She’s always delightful and spends lots of time with her mother, Klara"

Klara is pictured below. Nick said, "Klara turned up in my cellar as a tiny kitten. She managed to get pregnant before I could get her sterilized and so I decided I had to keep the kittens. Since Mario’s death she’s become the boss."

You can find more of Nick's photos and about the home restoration at his web site: https://www.fromno19.com/.

And here are some bonus photos of Klara and her pride.

Be Gone, Begonias!

Fellow garden blogger Shirley Fox shared this photo and commented, "that shelf was intended to hold begonias! Begonias have lost their place."

I nabbed another photo of the tortoise-shell feline off her blog at https://rockoakdeer.blogspot.com where she said, "She arrived as a feral about four years ago and we began caring for her. Over time, she has become more friendly, but is still wild enough to remain an outdoor cat."

Cat Gods

Barb Levisay said, "The cats’ names are Loki (on top) and Isis (we got her before the bad guys besmirched that name).

"Loki is 11 and thinks he is a dog. He loves Xena, our lab mix, rubs up against her and follows her around. Once, when a deer came wandering up the driveway in the middle of the day, he chased it off single-handedly.

"Isis is 10 and knows she is the boss of all. She is a Torti, so pretty small, but isn’t the least bit intimidated by Xena or Odin (our 2 year old, 70 pound rescue mutt). With people, she is friendly and talkative. She sits on my desk while I am working and follows close behind when I am gardening. She has quite a personality.

"That’s Isis—probably watching a skink. My husband is an avid photographer and caught this one."

Mellow Peep

Lynn Vismara of Wheaton, MD, shared this slumbering feline on a hot summer afternoon:
"We should all be sleeping like this today ‪#‎feelingthebreezeonmytootsies‬"

"She's a 13-year-old tortie-mix that was adopted from PetFinder.com. She came from a home of 16 other kitties, who were actually very well cared for. She used to sit on her previous owners chest when she was sick with cancer. She's named 'Peep' 'cuz we adopted her around Easter, and she likes to go under the covers and peep you."

Garden Tour Guide

This pretty kitty welcomed everyone to her owner's Open Garden as part of the Takoma Hort Club spring garden tour series in Takoma Park, MD. She is so proud of all the hard work and is eager to show off the new plantings. "Step right this way," she beckons.
