Misty Blue

Last week, Charlotte Ekker Wiggins, a beekeeper, author, and gardener, shared photos of her cat, James A. Mess. This week, we share James' sister.

Charlotte wrote that:
"Etta Girl is a grey tuxedo rescue found about a year ago with her brother, James A Mess, when they were 4 weeks old. A Russian Blue mix, Etta loves spending her days on my garden deck periodically bringing me sticks, dead leaves, and catnip stems, she's my nature girl."

"S-T-R-E-T-C-H in Rolla, Missouri USA. Etta Girl in one of her favorite spots in my deck garden, on top of the table where she knows she's not supposed to be. Unless it's sunny, then all bets are off!"

"Oops, may have to cut back on the daily fresh catnip sprig treats. James A Mess, on top and his sister Etta Girl on my Rolla, Missouri USA deck garden."

"Everyone can use a little help gardening. James A Mess, right, and Etta Girl, bottom left, pitched in to help me with these last couple of pots in Rolla, Missouri, USA on my deck garden."

"On cool mornings I like to enjoy a cup of tea in my deck garden in Rolla, Missouri USA. Etta Girl, left, and James A Mess, right, decided to join me. Maybe next time I fix something other than catnip tea or set three places!"

Feeling Froggy

This charming cat was begging for affection at the plant sale today at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, VA. Apparently, kitty is a regular visitor to the Friends of Green Spring (FROGS) Garden Gate Plant Shop. No one on staff that I asked knows his (her?) name or any other details, but they think kitty wanders over from some nearby houses into the public garden and especially likes all the attention from the plant shop visitors.

Roasted Fennel

"Sometimes snoozing in the shade of the tomatoes is the best thing to do on an extremely hot summer day."
Sarah O'Neil a garden blogger, and on Twitter @SarahtheGarden, shared these photos of Fennel, her cat. Sarah said, "She is just over a year old and apparently is half British Blue, half Bengal. She is a funny wee thing and loves the water! We take her out on our boat and we had to get her a life jacket, because she can get a little close to the edge. She also loves being in the garden and is never far from me when I'm out there. She does get a little possessive of the weeds and pounces on me when I attempt to pull them out. But all is all she is the perfect gardening companion in my garden here in New Zealand.

Sedimentary Rock

Debbie Brooks of Creative Garden Spaces, is a landscape designer in Oregon. She posted this darling photo (above) recently on her Instagram feed (barefoot_gardener), where she shares gardening pictures. I had to know more about this relaxed feline who looks like he is sculpted in stone.

She wrote: "The grey cat is Rudy, he is such a character - he likes to play with rocks... and the tabby is June..she's just a sweet pea. She and her litter mates (4 other kittens) were found abandon so I took them in. I found homes for two of them. The others were adopted out through CAT Adoption Team. But, this one crept her way into my heart."

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kitten...

Eva Stern writes: "This cat is Raindrop. He lives at my aunt's farm in Lothian, MD, USA. I am not sure of the history on Raindrop, but he and his partner-in-crime, Katrina, have been around for at least 10 years. They are tame barn cats with access to a heated space in the winter and all of the regular house-cat perks of food and treats."

Warning: Invasive Species

Thanksgiving Farmshttp://thanksgivingfarmandgarden.com/ is a 57-acre family-run farm in Adamstown, MD. We have a 40+ greenhouse operation. Specializing in the unusual, CSA, produce, and orchard.

They recently shared this photo and warning on their Facebook page:

"Cat-nap -- it's very invasive. Grows in sun or shade depending on the season. You don't plant it, it plants itself and that is usually on the most expensive flower in your garden and/or container. Hungry feeder and likes lots of water. Has briars/claws. Also comes in Dog-nap. This variety is much larger, with more destruction. The Dog-nap has a tendency to uproot vegetation in order to plant it's self. Both can/should be transplanted indoors to overwinter."
